Care to read with me? TPN Seattle Summer Reading Project: Read “Infinite Jest” along with the “Infinite Summer” project

by Eric Franklin on May 29, 2009

Readers of The Puget News may have already seen the Infinite Summer project currently being promoted by The Morning News. Basically, a large group of people are going to read “Infinite Jest” at the same time, starting June 21st and ending September 22nd. The website will be at the center of the project, hopefully hosting some interactive and dynamic discussion and fact-finding expeditions. This is a huge book but it’s also a very reasonable reading schedule amounting to about 75 pages a week.

I’m planning on taking part in the event and I’d love it of several Seattle-ites would like to come along for the ride with me, and meet up bi-weekly or monthly to discuss it in person over beers. Is anyone out there interested? If so, hit the comments and we’ll get a group going. If this works out, there are several new large works out there that I can think of that would be fun to tackle next. Cheers.

I’m there. Was going to start sooner, though.

Right on, Karin! Let’s do this. How early are you thinking of starting? I have a feeling Mr. Maurer may want to get in on this but I think he’s out of town for another week or so…

I’m in. I arrived back yesterday afternoon from the fatherland and I’m ready to storm the book which a reviewer once said he “wouldn’t have read it otherwise” if he hadn’t had to review it. Can’t wait!

Yippee! We’re getting the band back together!

I’m in. This was the perfect excuse to finally start this behomoth that was otherwise just gathering dust. Got a jump start on it so I’m not scrambling later. So far, so good. Recomend the Infinite Jest Wiki as a companion too for some of the vocab and references. It has no spoilers, but helps keep you up page by page.

Awesome Andrew! I just emailed you with some followup. Welcome aboard. I look forward to meeting you.
