I had no idea that the process for Michelin Guide inclusion was so stealthy that the inspectors are urged not let their own families know what they do. John Colapinto of the New Yorker went undercover for a lunch with a Michelin inspector and brought back a fascinating report that’s well worth reading.

I don’t understand anybody who can walk by these things as they are being animated by the subway exhaust and NOT pay attention, and yet it happens multiple times in the video. Criminy people, it’s OK to enjoy yourselves a little bit!

When Jan and I were in New York just last month, I loved how some of the large works at the MoMA were so aggressively raw and unframed.
It turns out that there was a fairly recent decision (within the last couple of years) to show how radical these paintings actually are by removing their cages. [...]
