Blog Updates: Cheers to Ross at 8 AM
Posted in Other on February 6th, 2007 by Eric FranklinTo start off today, I’d like to say thank you to Ross Yearsley for making some template adjustments to the blog last night. While I know how to do a minimal amount of coding (feeling proud just to get this blog off the ground), things that take me all day and risk destroying the formatting of the blog, take Ross much less time. As a developer in his real-life dayjob, perhaps he’s just more comfortable with the fact that he can fix anything he really screws up. I’d probably be much faster if I were in that camp as well. So cheers to Ross, I owe him a beer.
Any of you dear readers, as always, are welcome to join. Consider that a standing invitation. You just might have to buy your own.
Now, what are those lovely enhancements to the blog display?
- For starters, we’ve taken a 3-column template and chopped it down to 2. While not entirely difficult, this part was actually more difficult than it should have been. Believe it or not, there are multiple views of the content on this website and each one has to be checked to make sure that the changes are cohesive (in the world of software, that’s almost never the case). Most of the 3-column designs, like the one I started with, are very “ad-centric.” While I’m not against making a buck, it’s not going to be off this blog for now.
- The column for the main text of the blog is broader, allowing for the use of more (and substantially-sized) images without overlapping the right-column.
So, please let me know what you think of the minor facelift, especially if you see problems. We’ve only tested display in Firefox so far so there may well be display issues in IE.
Have a lovely day.
